ESTABLISHMENTS CENSUS

Private Establishments Census:
The Private Establishments Census is considered one of the most important  tasks undertaken by the Department of productive Sectors, and is a valuable source for information  on all economic activities, number of workers, size of establishment in the Kingdom. The 1414H. (1993G.)  Private Establishments Census covered all private establishments and companies working in the economic fields of : petroleum & minerals, manufacturing, electricity, gas & water, construction, trade, hotels & restaurants, transport, storage & communication, banking and insurance, social & personal services. In addition, the census covered 158 of the Kingdom's cities.

Objectives of  Private Establishments Census:
1. Providing  economic data that meet the Kingdom's planning & development needs.
2. Providing  economic data that meet the needs of the private sector, researchers and analysts.
3. Providing a complete frame for the economic establishments working in the Kingdom.
4. Comparing results with corresponding results in previous time series in order to measure economic growth.
5. Examining main indicators of national economy and the contribution of the private sector in GDP and national accounts.
6. Examining the size of the employed by nationality (Saudi / non-Saudi) in the private sector  as well as their classification by economic activity.
The 1993 Private Establishments Census was carried out through  complete enumeration of all private establishments that are practicing an economic activity in a constant place within the boundaries of the city included in the enumeration. It covered all cities with 150 or more economic establishments, which amounted to 158 cities.

General Economic Census:
The General Economic Census of 1424H. (2003G) is one of the most important statistical operations conducted by CDSI, and is a valuable source of economic information, as it is regarded as the largest economic census ever undertaken in the Kingdom in terms of coverage and details.
One salient feature of the 2003 General Economic Census, which coincided with the preparatory stage of the 2004 Kingdom's Population & Housing Census, is that it  was not confined to a limited number of cities,  as was the case in previous censuses, but covered all  population settlements in the Kingdom (cities, governorates, Markazes, …etc).
The General Economic Census of 1424H. (2003G) covered for the first time all economic activities in the Kingdom including agriculture, which was excluded in all previous censuses. In addition, the classification of economic activities was very much detailed to the 6-digit in order to meet the needs of moderns economic systems. Moreover, The General Economic Census of 1424H. (2003G) went beyond the private and public sectors, only covered in previous censuses, to cover also  the government sector, non-profit establishments, as well as foreign sector. Furthermore, in addition to collecting data on employed persons by nationality (Saudi / non-Saudi) and annual revenues, new data items, which were not collected in previous censuses,  were collected in the 2003 census,namely, gender of employed (male/female), establishment's paid capital , and share of  foreign partner.


Objectives of  General Economic Census:
1. Providing  economic data that meet the Kingdom's planning & development needs.
2. Providing  economic data that meet the needs of the private sector, researchers and analysts.
3. Providing a recent and a comprehensive frame to be utilized in all specialized economic sample surveys.
4. Providing  a broad data base to be used in  studies and researches needed for economic development programs.
5. Comparing results with corresponding results in previous time series in order to measure economic growth.
6. Examining main indicators of national economy and the contribution of the private sector in GDP and national accounts.
7. Examining the size of the employed by nationality (Saudi / non-Saudi)  
in the private sector  as well as their classification by economic activity.
The 2003 General Economic Census was carried out through  complete enumeration of all establishments with a legal status that are practicing an economic activity in a constant place within the boundaries of the Kingdom. All data collected were related to a specified time reference period.
